Readers journal #15          12/7/11
 Dear Mrs. Zrihen
I currently finished the book “the Spiderwick chronicles” by Tony Diterlizzi and Holly Black. This book is obviously a fantasy because that is what you said. The characters are the two twins, Jared and Simon, the older sister Mallory, and the mom Helen Grace. The Protagonist: Jared, Simon, Mallory, and Helen Grace (mom). The antagonist: scary creatures. It all started when the Grace family moved to a new house. From the outside the kids thought it was cool because it has an attic, and the house was huge. When the kids took their suitcases in the house, the walls were torn apart, the lamp on the ceiling looked like it was going to fall, and Jared heard something in the wall. When his sister and his brother came in the house their face was filled with disgust. Jared told them that he heard something in the walls. When they went to their rooms the floor was a mess, hidden in the dust of the floors was a little key to some room. As soon as Simon came in the room he was wondering why his brother was holding a strange key. Just as his sister came in the house after bringing in a jar of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches they went to search the walls for any hidden keyholes that would fit the key right. Simon found a little square-shaped elevator in the walls. His sister was wondering what that was. His sister said that, that elevator was too small for her and that one of the brothers will have to go. When the two brothers agreed that Jared would go he tried to fit in and he fit perfectly. As soon as the elevator started to move by the ropes his sister was pulling he kept on hearing the noise like a squirrel, (maybe that is what was making that noise) he thought. When the elevator stopped he found this room with a strange poem written on it “in a man’s torso you will find, my secret to all mankind, if false and true can be the same, you will soon know of my fame, up and up and up again, good luck dear friend”. He thought it meant that there is scary creatures outside. Just as he heard something in the darkness of the walls, he found some glasses, he put them on and was able to see the invisible creatures outside trying to get in the house!! He was wondering why that couldn’t come but then he realized that there is some kind of liquid on the grass forming a wall for the creatures not to come in, it only works for the humans to go through it. when the kids went to fight they won victory. I hope you enjoy reading this story.

Dear Mrs. Zrihen
I am currently reading the book “dweeb” by Aaron Starmer. The book is fiction, the antagonist: none, the protagonist: Denton, Wendell, Eddie, Elijah, Bijay. The theme wasn’t really anything because it was talking about different people in different chapters. So far that I read was about when it was the first day of high school for Denton and he was started to get bullied. When it was time for gym class it was hard for Denton because he never played the games they play today in Florida than where he came from. When he came home from school he told his mom that it is too hard at high school, and his mom asked him how old would he rather be and he said that he rather be 43 years old so that he doesn’t have to go to school only easy work. The next person is Wendell who has an older brother named trend who has a girlfriend named Keisha. Wendell told him that he also wanted a girlfriend and his brother said that he has to wait 4 ½ years till he gets in collage to have one. When he came to school, since that whenever his friends ask him if he wanted to chat about cheat codes he always declined so this time they never even bothered to ask him and they don’t even bother to sit next to him on the bus. So he got so angry that when a girl kept kicking his seat he actually yelled at her and made her feel sad. Now the next person ids Eddie who always wakes up at 6:00 am to cut the grass and that his parents pay him $30 each. Then he dresses up for school at 7:28 and gets there at 7:40 am. As he was packing his backpack with his unfinished homework his dad caught him he turned him around. In only 20 years old he was already the fastest runner at his high school. when he came to class he was late so he got his first “detension”. 2nd to last comes Elijah, first he has a bunk and he was in school this time. When he came to school his friends told him to meet up at the playground to discuss their hangout sleep over. When his friends Tyler and Kelly asked what time he wants them to come, so he told them at 5:00 at Saturday. When he came to class people kept on kicking him so when he reached for his back he felt paper that said “kick me”. He had an injury that he left home early. And last but not least is Bijay who started his day by stepping off the bus and seeing the sigh saying “Mackers arrives April 15!!!” just looking at that made him say awesome!!. When he came in the school everyone was celebrating like crazy, jumping around yelling on the table and hanging “it’s time to celebrate” signs. When he found out who that was (he was the popular kid in school) . he felt weird that his school was celebrating about that. When he came home he felt exhausted

When they found a house to stay in for a couple of days they had to buy, furniture, such as couches, t.v, and food. Also they needed to find a school for his sons to be educated in, and the parents had to find jobs to go in to be interviewed. So when the parents took the kids with them the dad told them to not make a sound because they needed that job, so just as they went to be interviewed so when they went home after the interview they were very happy and thy lived happy ever after

                                                            JEREMYS READERS JOURNAL #12         11/17/11
Dear Mrs. Zrihen
I am currently reading the book “Of beetles and angles, a boys remarkable journey from a refugee camp to Harvard” by Mawi Asgedom. This book is a memoir. The plot structure so far is, exposition: refugee camp, then rising action: going to the place they call it “Amerikha”. The people are Mulu, Tsege, Haileab, Selamawi, Mehret, and Tewolde. So far what I read was about a boy named Mulu who lived in Eritrea, and Ethiopia, wo both fought a deadly civil war from 1961-1991. Eritrea became an independent nation in 1993. He remembers the desert, the shrieking hyenas, and he remembers playing soccer with rocks and a strange man telling him and his brother to go on a trip with him, tewolde, mulus brother refused to go on the trip so the man had to take out a piece of gum and tewolde came along. During their trip they felt so exhausted, so they took a break at the only place they could, the man said “take a long break, because we will never take another break again”. When they continued the man warned the kids not to go back because there are strangers that could take them away. When tewolde tried to se if that was true he turned around and some guy took the kids back to village. When tewolde and mulus parents were reading a book about “Amerikha” and wanted to go there so they told their kids that they are going to “Amerikha” because they have cars, food, drnks, houses, and lots of money that grow on trees as in “lots of money”. So the kids agreed, but some people told them not to and some people told them to go live their lives, and the people that didn’t want them to go told them that there are thieves that steal their money. So the parents went along anyway. (this journal will finish when I finish my book) Jeremy kazieva

                                                      READERS JOURNAL #11                                11/8/11
Dear Mrs. Zrihen
I am currently reading the book “more short & shivery” by Robert D. SAN SOUCI. I know that this is a short story because this book has lots of different stories in it. The people in the stories are Tabb, man in white, witches, Don Pedro, Dona Inez, Dona Teresa, Jubal Lescot, Albertine Lescot, mother, father, the duppy(ghost). This story started when there was a kid named Tabb who lived with these farmers right near an old house. When he was helping to plant the seeds he went to the old house to see what was there, when he went there he found a fire place and a couch right near it. when it began to be cold outside he went to the house and lit the fire place and sat right next to it, he was thinking what fools to be living in a cold place when he has a fireplace. Just as he finished bragging, he found a white dressed man hanging in the ceiling and suddenly it landed right on top of him and they were fighting. When the farmers heard the fight they came to the house and watched as the fight took itself on the roof. Just as the boy was about to run away Tabb caught him and the white dressed man threw him in the air and Tabb and the boy was never seen again.
The second story that I read was about the witches eyes. One day when the family was having a regular diner, right at 12:00 am the to lady’s wanted everyone to go home because at midnight they turn to cats. When Don Pedro asked why he had to leave the lady’s wanted him to just go before he dies. When he went home he was watching what was going on at their house so he took a peek and saw that they were cats. He went to their house and checked out what was going on and he ran away because he was scared that he saw that scary looking cats. When the lady’s got complaints they were annoyed so they moved somewhere else and was never found again.
The third story that I read was about a kid named Jubal and that he wanted to know that if there is any freaky ghost in their island so he heard about the Duppy. The duppy is a ghost that lives in a grave and comes out at sunrise. When he did not belive it he went to check by himself so he went and their it was floating right behind him. he needed help so he ran to his house for help so he ran and the ghost was also never found again.

READERS JOURNAL #10
Dear Mrs. Zrihen
I am currently reading the book “Skeleton Creek” by Patrick Carman. So far I read that he was trying to send an email to Sarah, but he was afraid that his parents might be watching. So, the next day he was trying to write the letter on the paper, but he felt that his dad and Henry were coming. When Henry was coming upstairs to give him the yummy sandwich he made, he was trying to hide somewhere so Henry wouldn’t know about chatting with Sarah, so he got so scared and worried because he was holding the book in his hand. When Henry found him, he felt better because Henry never noticed the book in his hand, so when he went back to his room he was going to play cards with him after his lunch until he found something off the computer and scanned it and taped it in his book. Just as he got so excited about playing cards he fell on the stairs and his face landed on his dads fish smelling shirt, when he was O.K he saw that the pictures were wobbling and fell on one another (luckily it was O.K). When he was walking outside to his porch he heard screeching on the floorboard because of his cast. When he was laying down he was looking for signs of dr. pepper cans or Sarah. When his dad came out he asked how long he has to wear the cast for 7 weeks, and he told him that Henry is very good at playing cards. When he was done helping his mom with fixing the bottom of the sink he got a warm cheesy sandwich. He felt like he wasn’t in his room today because he was sitting on the porch playing cards. So when he checked on his computer without his parents realizing he checked it really quickly and read that she will be going to the dredge tonight and find out more things.

Dear Mrs. Zrihen
I am currently reading the book “Skeleton Creek” by Patrick Carmon. The plot structure finishes as climax: talking about ghosts, falling action: henry comes. When Ryan’s parents tell him that he can’t talk, email, or send text messages he does anyway without his parents looking. Like one time he sended an email about Henry coming and of how he is going to try to ask him about the dredge. When Henry was coming, Ryan was talking about how loud Henry is all the time when he is happy. He told the people of how Henry always wins in poker night. The next morning he called the “skeleton creek ranger station” and if he got caught he would say that it was just a prank. When the station called, somehow it thought that Sarah (his friend) put him up to this. When he was nervous enough not to say anything the place got so angry.  Just as his dad picked up the phone he heard that Ryan called the ranger station and that he did a prank call, so his dad said that he will have a serious talk with Ryan. Ryan got so scared that he was sweating. When his dad came in, he talked about the pranking the he has to stop. That night, when Sarah sended him another video of evidence of the house. When his parents came they warned him about his behavior before Henry came. When henry came and said hi to Ryan, Ryan asked him a couple of questions. When Henry got tired he went downstairs and ate.

Dear Mrs. Zrihen
I am currently reading the book “Skeleton Creek” by Patrick Carmon. (this is the scariest book ever). The genre is mystery. The Authors purpose is to inform about a haunted house. The plot structure- exposition: hospital, the rising action: home. I am alike Ryan because he is scared of ghosts and I am scared of ghosts. I like this book because it’s about a haunted house. The Authors perspective is scared because of the ghosts in the haunted house. The book is about (so far) a boy named Ryan, and a girl named Sarah who try to prove to the whole “skeleton creek “ neighborhood that the house is haunted. It all started when Ryan was at the hospital because he broke his leg from running because he saw a ghost. When the nurse said that the doctor will be right with you, and not to try to sleep, he slept anyways because he felt unconscious about seeing the ghost. When he was dreaming he dreamt about being at home writing a lot of journals about what happened to him and about the house. When Sarah heard weird things about the house she decided to interview people and to show Ryan that the house is haunted. Just as Sarah went outside to capture each of the windows from the house she noticed that the one on top had this ghost that appeared and she got so scared that she ran away to Ryan’s house. When Ryan saw the video he still didn’t believe it because he thought it was from Youtube so he
BET that if he saw the ghost he owes Sarah $5. So when he went outside the next night with Sarah he didn’t see the ghost and Sarah was thinking that it doesn’t make any sense. As soon as he woke up in the hospital he realized that he was asleep for 55 hours. When he used the wheelchair to go to his parents he found out that he is not able to see Sarah anymore because he has been getting in trouble with her.

DEAR Mrs. Zrihen I am currently reading the book “Bat Boy” by Matthew McGough. The genre is a biography. The Authors purpose is to inform the readers about a baseball player. The plot structure is at a Yankees stadium, then at home then at school. i would like to add that my favorite character is matt, i am alike matt because he likes baseball and i like baseball, and yes i like the book. So far the book is about a boy named Matt that is obsessed with baseball, he has a poster of a baseball player Don Mattingly on his bedroom wall. His favorite baseball team is the Yankees. When he went to a baseball game his team was versing the Kansas City, Royals. Just as he he was winning 4-3, the 3 people behind him were the loudest people in the stadium (comparing to any other audience). When he saw the other team player come up, one of the people cursed and threw a beer bottle at the bottom of the audience and some of the drops went on Matt’s scoreboard (card). When the Kansas player made an illegal batting hit, so because of that the game was over and the Yankees have won! The next morning Matts mom put an article about the baseball game right in front of him. As soon as he was walking to school he saw a sign on the billboard that said “Boston Tonight At 7:05”. When he was watching the game he noticed a boy his age sitting on the bleachers dressed in pinstripes, and noticed that he was a Bat Boy. Just as  the game was over he found a discarded program and he tore out, and on the train ride home he started circling names that might be good for Bat Boy hiring. (this story will be continued when I have finished the book).

Dear Mrs. Zrihen
I currently finished reading the book “Football Hero” by Tim Green. The exposition is at car-pool, the rising action is at the first game, the climax is grandpa saying “no” to ESPN interview with brother, then the falling action is in nasty house, then the resolution is winning the final game. So the rest of the story is about Ty and Uncle Gus going to Lucy’s restaurant and they see a lot of old people with their beers against the window. When Ty saw Lucy’s scar he tried not to look at it, so he asked Uncle Gus if he can do anything to help, so he got to wash the sink in the dirty bathroom. It was so dirty that he was thinking about his football being very dirty. So he went to Uncle Gus to ask if there is anything else to work on so he said to work on that first then I will give you something else. So when he was washing the sink he was thinking about his football being clean because he always get things done when he is thinking of something clean. So when he was clean he started to see silver because he was cleaning it super well. Just as Uncle Gus went to check up on him he saw that the sink was super silver. When Ty asked for a break he got to go to a restaurant and a phone call from his brother about a present that he will go with his brother to the interview by ESPN. When he asked Uncle Gus he said depending on your behavior. As they went back to the nasty house he had to finish his chores, which was to clean the table, and to vacuum the carpet. While he was doing that he got a text message that the final game was starting so he asked Uncle Gus if he could go play and he said ok. As soon as he came his team were losing so he had no choice but to run out there with his clothes that he is wearing already. So when the timer was counting down at 10 he ran so fast that no one was able to catch and TOUCHDOWN!!!! He won

JEREMYS READERS JOURNAL # 5               9/27/11
Dear Mrs. Zrihen
I am currently reading “Football Hero” by Tim Green. The genre is fiction. The setting is at car-pool, then at school, then at home. The protagonist is Ty, uncle Gus, Mike. Charlotte, thane, Aunt Virginia, and Poyer. The antagonist is the other team. It’s character VS character. The authors purpose is to entertain about a football game. The exposition: at car-pool, the rising action: the first game. So the story that I read so far is about a boy named Ty who came to school on the fist day late. Just as he took one out of the bus the coach yelled out in his face , Ty worriedly, tried to think of a lie. When the bus driver drove away the smoke filled Ty’s face. When coach puled Ty’s shirt into the class they started getting ready for gym. When coach said 5 more minutes Ty was  rushing to tie his shoes . when he was ready, he noticed that when he rushed he tied the laces together, (now it feels like a rope being tied into his leg). When he was running he tripped and coach thought that he did that on purpose so he made him do 20 push-ups for pretending to fool around. While he was tying his shoe again the team lined up and coach was picking who to be quarter back and offense. Just as  he was offense Ty caught the ball in the air and ran so fast that when other players were trying to get him he jumped over them, stopped to let them fall by , and spun around so it will be tricky, just as he did all of that he noticed white line, so he crossed it right when the player was 5 steps behind him and got his team a TOUCHDOWN!!!! So  he walked back home from school, and he found his Aunt Verginia standing in front of him. He wanted to know the problem ,so he realized that it was his birthday and that he was late to decorate. His Aunt was angry that he didn’t tell her where he really was, so as a punishment he had to clean the table with his toothbrush. The presents he got for his birthday was a football, and a football helmet, (that way he could practice at home.) When he came back from school he found his older brother Thane watching the stove because, it was the birthday cake, and watching his favorite show football. So far the main idea is Ty the boy proving to coach that he's really good in football.

Dear Mrs. Zrihen
I am currently reading “The 39 clues” by Gordan Korman. The genre of the book is fiction because it tells about kids going all over the world to find them for the race. The characters are Dan, Amy Cahill, Mozart, Saladin, and Nellie. The protagonist are everyone, the antagonist is the Opponents. The setting is in a hotel, mozarts house, and Vienna. The exposition is at home, the rising action is going to a hotel, the climax is finding the first clue from Mozart’s music. So the Book so far is about 2 kids named Dan and Amy. In the morning Dan saw this race around the world to find the clues so when he came to dinner he asked his mom if he can go with Amy to find them, so she said yes but with a parents permission. When they were on a train to Vienna, Dan had problems finding a seat because the train was crowded with old people. Before they left the train a person was talking in Spanish and Dan couldn’t understand him, so he thought it was something bad so he made a run for it. When they got to their hotel, Dan and Amy went to look for a clue in a mysterious place, so they went to Mozart’s house and checked if whatever he did had a clue in it. When they read his music they found a clue. Also from that clue they read a book and realized that he had an older sister. When they came back to the hotel and ate lunch and thought about where the 2nd clue must be. (this story will continue when I read the whole book)

jeremy's readers journal 2

Dear Mrs. Zrihen
I just finished reading “Ghost Hunt” by Jason Hawes and grant Wilson. Apparently the book is made up of several different ghost stories. The genre of the book is fiction. the characters are Jason, Grant, Jen, Diana, and Mr. martin. the protagonist are Jason, Grant, Diana, Jen, and Diana. The antagonist are the ghosts. the setting is at the island and at home. the exposition is an island, then the rising action is a big storm, then the climax is finding a ghost from the storm, then the falling action is asking for help, then the resolution is leaving home. Also for the next chapter the exposition is at home, then the rising action is getting water, then the climax is finding a ghost , then the falling action is writing to ghost hunters, then the resolution is killing ghost. It's character vs supernatural.the plot is about kids getting scared about ghosts. the tone is good  and the mood is scary and tense because the boy is with a ghost. theme is ghosts. the moral is to never be alone in the dark always with a parent. the point of view is scared. the authors purpose is to inform that ghosts aren't real. reponse starters- i admire my book because it's about ghosts, i rate this book a 4/5 because it's too scary. One of the stories that I finished reading was about the 5 kids that go to an island to capture a ghost. As they were doing that two girls that were helping each other found another ghost that was staring at the girl from a dock. As the ghost was disappearing the girl wanted to yell for help but her throat choked. On that night it was so windy that everyone had to go back home. The last chapter was a bout a boy named Billy Turner, who had a ghost in his house. It all started when he went downstairs for water at midnight he thought he heard something so he went closer and closer and the closer he went the colder he got. When he ran down the stairs he ran into his best hiding spot he could find, he grabbed a flashlight and wrote to the ghost hunters that his house was haunted. When the ghost hunters read it, they were terrified themselves. So when they came to his house the used a special vacuum to suck the ghost in.

Reading journal number 1

Dear Mrs. Zrihen
I’m reading a book called “Ghost Hunt “ by Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson. The book is about 5 kids that go into haunted houses and capture ghosts. The genre of the book is fiction, because it’s about ghosts mostly. The characters are Mark, Mike, Scott, Henry, Jerry, and the ghosts. The protagonist are the kids, Mike, Mark, Scott, Henry, and Jerry. The antagonist is the ghost. The setting is at home, at houses, and in school. The weather conditions were sunny and dark. The plot structure is at home, then going to search for ghosts, etc. The conflict is ghosts everywhere and scaring kids, and it’s character VS supernatural. The tone is excitement, and the mood is nervous and scary because they hunt ghosts in haunted houses. The theme is obviously haunted. I think that ghosts don't exist because they're fake and few people believe they exist. The conflict of the story is whether they exist and whether they will prove it and catch them. They are scaring people that live with them and it's up to the kids to get the ghosts. (This post will be updated as I finish the book).
